I lived in Balto for 10 years, have been gone for eight, and my wife still misses Orchard Market . It is., as the other reviewer said, a very personal place. The waiter she mentioned, I would bet $10, is the co-owner Jason. (His mother in law used to be the chef and may still be). It's the best value in Baltimore, period. Romantic from the smell of the spices up. Friendly, since the owners really do know the regulars and love to explain the menu (Jason was and I'm sure still is a passionate evangelist for a cuisine most people know little about). A ton of food for the price. Try the eggplant chicken and the chicken ishfahan, though you can try pretty much anything confidently. Put it this way. I was sitting in OMC one night looking at a table where Donna Crivello, the owner of Donna's, and Sun restaurant critic Elizabeth Large were having dinner. And neither one of them was working. This is one of the places -- and the only one, pretty much, in Baltimore County -- where Baltimore people who really know food hang out on their own time and their own dime.

This little place is hidden away behind Gardiners on E.Joppa Road. The food is wonderful. Flavorful and inexpensive! Our waiter was really warm, friendly, chatty and that just added to the ambiance. This was our first time here and we did see quite a few regulars who the waiter knew by name. We loved everything we tried and the waiter very patiently explained the dishes to us. You should definitely try it out!

Just wanted to say don't waste your time going to get anything from the market. It no longer exists. I don't know what the food is like, I didn't stay for it. I had to choose a rating, so I chose 1 star.

I found Orchard Market and Caf about a dozen years ago when looking for a place to have my rehearsal dinner. I wasn't much of an ethnic food lover at the time, but I really liked the lunch we had there and ultimately we decided to have our rehearsal dinner here. Since then I've been back as often as possible because the food is just so good and nothing like anything else I've ever had. The restaurant is Persian, but the chef (and owner, I believe) trained in France so the food is prepared with amazing flair and creativity. The chicken fesenjune (with a pureed walnut pomegranate sauce) is to die for, and even though you can now get hummus at your local grocery store, it's way better at the Orchard Market. Whenever I go, I want to try everything on the menu! The prices used to be lower, but they are still very reasonable. The restaurant is located in a strip mall behind a strip mall off of Joppa Road, so you have to go looking for it. They do not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own bottle of wine from home to drink.
